Up and Coming

Our Second up and coming artist for the month of November is
KIRKO BANGZ

Hailing from the Eastside where the skateboarders grind, Kirko Bangz, also known as Kirko Box by the 97.9 the Box crew has made his way into the hip-hop world while being compared to favored artist, Drake.

Third year student of Prairie View A & M University, majoring in Communications, Kirko has climbed his way to the top quickly. But he just calls it being "blessed." His first single "What Yo Name Iz?" is one of the most requested on Houston's 97.9 The Box and has even made its way to the Billboard charts after only four weeks of air time. When asked who his musical influences are, he ranted off with names such as Eminem and Weezy.

The 21-year-old sensation has been putting his grind into overtime performing show after show including the Frontline Tour. He’s fun and charismatic, but most of all humble. He is the perfect model for young aspiring artists. Now a signed artist to the distinguished, Warner Bros, Kirko is at his all-time high.

Speaking on being a signed artist he says that it’s not just a carnival on the other side; the grass is the same color on both sides and can be even darker. Still he’s ecstatic about becoming an official signed artist. Born Kirk Randle, he’s devoted to his family first. He attributes his success to his mother, sister and brother and also his childhood.

Bio:
Yelawolf or also known as Michael Wayne Atha was born in Gadsden, Alabama, and is of mixed Caucasian and Cherokee descent. Changing many schools, he was heavily influenced by the culture in Baton Rouge, LouisianaAntioch, TennesseeGainesville, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia. "When I lived in Antioch, they’d bus us down to the projects in Nashville to go to school and everything just started clicking with me with rap music and in life"..."I felt the connection, these kids had the same problems that I had at home," Atha stated.[4]
Atha spent a large part of his teens and early twenties all over the United States for various reasons. After getting a GED from Gadsden State Community College, Atha was given a car from his step-father. He immediately took the car and moved to Berkeley, California to pursue a career as a professional skateboarder while living in an abandoned fraternity house. After being riddled with injuries, Atha decided to move into the music business. To save money, he also spent a season charter fishing.
He competed on the 2005 reality series The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott. In a December 2010 interview with Canadian music websiteExclaim!, he stated that his inspiration to break into hip-hop was OutKast's André 3000.[4]
He was also featured in an episode of Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory, alongside rappers Game and Pharrell Williams.

Here's Yelawolf's opinion on how much music means to him:

"Being honest, I’m so in my own shell a lot, because I’m so focused. I never had a Plan B. It was either this or nothing, and I literally mean that with everything. I was either going to be poor and homeless and do this shit. I was either going to be a starving artist, or I was going to be eating. But I wasn’t not going to be an artist. That’s just the way I am. I’ve always been that way. I didn’t have a choice because I didn’t give myself a choice, I refused to lose. Not to be typical or cliché.” -2011 XXL Freshman Interview
